A piano restoration is a project not to be undertaken lightly. Before we start any work, we take the time to ask a few questions to determine whether the piano needs restoring or reconditioning, or, even, whether your money would be better spent on buying a new or reconditioned piano.

We undertake a detailed assessment of the piano, looking at:

• Touch and tone
• Quality of the soundboard and bridges: has the soundboard got split; has it lost its crown; do the bridges need capping?
• The tightness of the tuning pins and the condition of strings and Agraffes
• The movement of the action, including the condition of hammers, felts, leathers, springs and roller
• The condition of the keyboard, the ivory key bushing, key bed, felts and pins
• The condition of the casework

The model and age of the piano are also important details which can help to determine whether the instrument is likely to be of value once restoration work has been carried out.

We aim to give you sufficient information to enable you to decide whether or not to restore your piano. French Polishing
Taylor Pianos has a highly skilled French Polisher who has over 35 years experience. Whether the piano requires a full strip down and re-polish, a repair and re-veneer, or simply reviving an existing polish, traditional methods of French polishing are employed.
